  • Gareth Southgate’s preparations for the 2022 World Cup have been rocked already by five players pulling out of his squad through injury.
  • Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tammy Abraham, Aaron Ramsdale and Sam Johnstone have all had to withdraw.
  • Kyle Walker-Peters, Tyrick Mitchell, Ollie Watkins and Fraser Forster have been called up as a result.
  • Walker-Peters looks set for a full England debut right away with no other natural options at right-back with James and Alexander-Arnold pulling out.
  • Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford were left out of the original squad and Kalvin Phillips is only just returning from a long-term injury.
  • Bukayo Saka has withdrawn from the squad after testing positive for COVID-19.
  • England supporters are desperate to see Jude Bellingham establish himself in the side and he is in competition with Jordan Henderson for a place in midfield.
  • Raheem Sterling was in Jamaica earlier this week and arrived later than his England team-mates so may sit this one out.
  • Switzerland have lost two goalkeepers in Yann Sommer and Philipp Kohn so Gregor Kobel or Jonas Omlin will deputise against England.
  • Switzerland changed from the 3-4-1-2 formation used at Euro 2020 to 4-2-3-1 during qualification for the 2022 World Cup.
  • Fabian Schar has been in superb form for Newcastle of late but has been forced to withdraw from the squad through injury.
  • Denis Zakaria would usually start in midfield but the Juventus midfielder has been injured for over a month.
  • Former Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri, now of MLS side Chicago Fire, will make his return to England on Saturday.
  • Noah Okafor or Renato Steffen will start on the right wing for Switzerland at Wembley this weekend.
