  • Dmitriy Chistyakov was sent off in Zenit’s last Champions League match and is suspended for this one as a result.
  • Sergei Semak has switched between a back three and a four-man defence in recent weeks so it’s unclear how he will set up against Chelsea on Wednesday.
  • Wilmar Barrios will have to drop into defence with Chistyakov suspended if Zenit continue in a back three here.
  • Trevoh Chalobah, Jorginho, Ben Chilwell and N’Golo Kante are all ruled out for Chelsea, but Kai Havertz and Marcos Alonso are expected to travel.
  • Mateo Kovacic returned to training after injury this week but has now tested positive for COVID-19 and has to self-isolate.
  • Saul Niguez or Callum Hudson-Odoi will most likely start at left wing-back here to give Alonso some rest ahead of a hectic winter schedule.
  • With so many central midfielders ruled out, Saul may indeed get a life-line and start in midfield again despite some very sub-par performances there.
  • Edouard Mendy turned in a horror-showing against West Ham at the weekend and Thomas Tuchel has conceded his confidence has dipped. Kepa Arrizabalaga could be a surprise starter here.
  • Tuchel has been very patient building Romelu Lukaku’s minutes from the bench since returning from injury but he could be unleashed from the start here. Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are all in competition to start here too.

  • Ralf Rangnick is expected to make wholesale changes for his second game in charge with top spot already guaranteed in Group F.
  • With Nemanja Matic confirmed as captain for Tuesday’s game, Harry Maguire is being given the night off.
  • Rangnick has also revealed Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek will start in midweek.
  • United youngsters Amad Diallo, Anthony Elanga and Teden Mengi will hope to feature in some capacity as well.
  • Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard are both back in training and could return to first-team action here.
  • Anthony Martial is ruled out of United’s next two matches with a knee complaint, while Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani are targeting full training next week.
  • Aaron Wan-Bissaka finds himself under pressure to be first-choice right-back under Rangnick and will hope to put in an eye-catching performance on Wednesday night.
  • Young Boys continue to deal with a raft of injury concerns with as many as nine players potentially missing for Wednesday’s trip to Old Trafford.
  • Fabian Lustenberger has returned from a long lay-off in recent weeks but his fitness will need to be assessed as to whether he is ready to start here.
  • Christopher Martins Pereira was sent off at the weekend but thankfully for Young Boys his suspension doesn’t carry over to Europe.
  • Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu will be full of confidence heading into Wednesday’s game after a great performance against Manchester United in the reverse fixture.
