Football 22/8/2021 – Southampton v Manchester United

  • James Ward-Prowse recovered from a knee injury to start Southampton’s opening game.
  • Adam Armstorng scored on debut last weekend in a massive boost following Danny Ings’ exit.
  • Jan Bednarek and Kyle Walker-Peters will push for starts in defence this weekend.
  • Stuart Armstrong, Nathan Tella and Nathan Redmond are options on the flanks for the home side.
  • New signing Raphael Varane may have to settle for a place on the bench initially following Victor Lindelof’s strong display last time out.
  • Edinson Cavani will be well off the pace after his late return and may not even travel for the game on Sunday.
  • Jesse Lingard has recovered from COVID-19 and will push Jadon Sancho for a start against Southampton, with Dan James potentially dropping out.
  • Eric Bailly and Amad Diallo are back available after Olympic duty but the latter is likely to go out on loan.
  • Alex Telles and Marcus Rashford are both still injured for Manchester United, while Dean Henderson continues his recovery from long COVID.
  • There is no real rush to start Anthony Martial after Mason Greenwood’s standout performance last week, though the latter could move out to the right.

Football 22/8/2021 – Wolves v Tottenham

  • Bruno Lage remains without no fewer than six players due to injury for Sunday’s welcome of Tottenham.
  • Lage may name an unchanged XI for the meeting with Spurs despite falling to a 1-0 loss at Leicester on Saturday.
  • That would see Ki-Jana Hoever keep his spot at right wing-back despite the availability of Nelson Semedo.
  • Joe Rodon missed Thursday’s Europa Conference League defeat at Pacos de Ferreira and misses out here.
  • Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed Tanguy Ndombele is no where near the level required to be considered for selection.
  • A late decision will be made on Harry Kane but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he too missed out.
  • Cameron Carter-Vickers rolled his ankle quite badly on Thursday night but he wouldn’t have featured here anyway.

Football 22/8/2021 – Arsenal v Chelsea

  • Alexandre Lacazette, Willian and Runar Alex Runarsson are all out with COVID-19. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has returned a negative test and will be assessed prior to this match.
  • Even if Aubameyang is not fit to start, we may well see Folarin Balogun drop out of the side here after a tough time in defeat to Brentford last time out.
  • Mikel Arteta may well decide to switch to a back three to face Chelsea after Rob Holding was fit to make the bench in defeat to Brentford last weekend.
  • Bukayo Saka will surely start against Chelsea after only coming off the bench away to Brentford. Mohamed Elneny is an option in central midfield.
  • Arsenal have re-signed Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid but he won’t be available for this game as he waits for a visa. Aaron Ramsdale will go straight into the squad if he signs in time.
  • Romelu Lukaku is expected to make his second debut for Chelsea after returning from Inter in a club-record deal last week.
  • There is surely no way Thomas Tuchel can drop Trevoh Chalobah after his goal on Premier League debut last weekend.
  • Kai Havertz will push for a recall after dropping to the bench against Crystal Palace on the opening weekend.
  • N’Golo Kante wasn’t risked against Palace but should also come back into contention for Sunday’s London derby.
  • Hakim Ziyech and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are expected to miss out for Chelsea once again. Christian Pulisic has returned a positive COVID test and is unavailable.
