- European champions Italy have something of a dilemma in attack, as Ciro Immobile is no where near as effective for country as he is club. The Lazio striker has only managed 9 goals in his last 30 caps.
- Nicolo Barella, Jorginho and Marco Verratti are expected to start in midfield for Italy but in-form duo Lorenzo Pellegrini and Manuel Locatelli are pushing for starts against Spain on Wednesday.
- Mancini is expected to go with Juventus duo Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini at centre-back for their UEFA Nations League semi-final against Spain.
- Matteo Pessina has withdrawn from the Italy squad and been replaced by Federico Dimarco after picking up an injury for Atalanta at the weekend.
- Versatile Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente has withdrawn from the Spain squad through injury and been replaced by Tottenham youngster Bryan Gil.
- Celta Vigo’s Brais Mendez was called up to replace Pedri but now he has been forced out with injury. Sergi Roberto has been drafted in as a result.
- Pedri’s midfield partner at Barcelona, Gavi has been called on and the 17-year-old is a serious option to start here.
- Marcos Alonso has received his first Spain call-up since 2018 as a result of Jose Gaya and Alba both missing out and he is pushing Sergio Reguilon for a start here.
- David de Gea has been in terrific touch for Manchester United this season and is pushing to reclaim the No.1 spot from Athletic Club’s Unai Simon.
- Luis Enrique has put a lot of faith in Barcelona youngster Eric Garcia but the former Manchester City centre-back has made a woeful start to the campaign with two red cards.
- Villarreal’s Pau Torres will hope to start alongside Aymeric Laporte at centre-back on Wednesday.
