Premier League 25/9/2021 – Chelsea v Manchester City (12:30)

  • Édouard Mendy has missed Chelsea’s last two matches but Thomas Tuchel is confident he will be available to face Manchester City on Saturday.
  • The fact N’Golo Kante started against Aston Villa in midweek makes it unlikely he will start again here.
  • Timo Werner or Hakim Ziyech will come into the side with Mason Mount now unavailable.
  • Saul Niguez is unlikely to start after yet another unimpressive display against Aston Villa.
  • Reece James was terrific in midweek but may have to settle for a place on the bench.
  • Manchester City have three away games in a row against Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool so it will interesting to see how Pep Guardiola manages his squad.
  • The City boss is already sweating on the fitness of key players like Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan.
  • Nathan Ake is on standby to continue in defence if neither Stones nor Laporte recover in time for Saturday’s early kick-off.
  • Given City’s upcoming matches, it is a surprise Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne played 90 minutes against Wycombe in midweek despite the need to get minutes in them.
  • It wouldn’t be a complete shock if one started on the bench against Chelsea, with Bernardo Silva on standby to start if required.
  • Riyad Mahrez may find himself on the bench despite also recording a perfect WhoScored 10 rating against Wycombe.
  • Ferran Torres and Raheem Sterling appear to be vying to start through the middle for City at the moment, though the former may win out here.

Premier League 25/9/2021 – Manchester United v Aston Villa (12:30 – Not on UK TV)

  • Manchester United’s fringe players did not impress against West Ham in midweek so expect an unchanged side from last weekend.
  • Alex Telles, Dean Henderson and Phil Jones are back for the home side but none will start on Saturday.
  • Edinson Cavani is in contention on Saturday but will only make the bench at best.
  • With Axel Tuanzebe ineligible to face his parent club, Dean Smith has to decide whether to stick with a back three or revert to a four-man defence.
  • With Leon Bailey out until next month and Emiliano Buendia yet to hit top gear, Smith may elect to stick with a back three with Kortney Hause replacing Tuanzebe.
  • Morgan Sanson suffered more injury woe in midweek, but John McGinn has been cleared to play despite suffering a head injury last weekend.
  • With Matt Targett a doubt, former Manchester United winger Ashley Young may get the nod against his old club.

Premier League 25/9/2021 – Brentford v Liverpool (17:30)

  • Shandon Baptiste served his suspension in midweek but is battling for a place in midfield with Frank Onyeka and Saman Ghoddos here.
  • Marcus Forss scored a hat-trick against Oldham in the Carabao Cup in midweek but there is no way he replaces Bryan Mbeumo or Ivan Toney here.
  • James Milner came down with illness in midweek and missed their 3-0 win over Norwich as a result.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold has missed Liverpool’s last two games through illness but is expected to return here.
  • Thiago has been ruled out against Brentford with a calf injury suffered last weekend, while Naby Keita may not be risked here after picking up a knock in midweek.
  • Curtis Jones may be rewarded with his first Premier League start of the season as a result after his eye-catching display against Norwich.
  • Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip will be reunited at the back after some rotation in defence across their last two matches.
  • Roberto Firmino is in contention to return this weekend and perhaps wouldn’t be a shock if he started given Liverpool are involved in the Champions League next week.
