Premier League 3/10/2021 – Crystal Palace v Leicester (2pm)

  • Crystal Palace have a settled backline but Patrick Vieira is still figuring out his best midfield and attack.
  • Luka Milivojevic and Cheikhou Kouyate are battling for the anchor spot in Palace’s midfield, while Christian Benteke and new signing Odsonne Edouard battle to lead the line.
  • Summer signings Will Hughes and Michael Olise are still waiting for first-team opportunities but that is unlikely to change here.
  • Jonny Evans didn’t travel for Thursday’s Europa League game suggesting he will instead start here. Wilfred Ndidi was suspended in midweek and he too will be fresh to start.
  • Kelechi Iheanacho missed out against Legia Warszawa, albeit not by design. He had to fly home from Poland due to issues with his passport.
  • Leicester’s fringe players did not grasp their opportunity in Europe and have not forced their way into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans.
  • Wesley Fofana and James Justin remain sidelined for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

  • James Milner will keep his place at right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to miss out for the second game running.
  • Roberto Firmino scored twice off the bench in midweek and it wouldn’t be a complete shock if he started here in place of Diogo Jota for his work rate.
  • Curtis Jones deserves to start once again after some impressive displays but Naby Keita is back available for Liverpool. Thiago is sidelined.
  • Jurgen Klopp will hope Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk can come through three games in a week unscathed. Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate are on standby if required.
  • John Stones is still waiting to make his first appearance of the season for Manchester City.
  • Phil Foden was benched against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek but will start here, potentially pushing Kevin De Bruyne into a false nine position.
  • Jack Grealish has been an ever-present for City this season but there were signs of fatigue against PSG on Wednesday.
  • Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez are both expected to drop out of the starting XI. Gabriel Jesus and Ferran Torres are waiting in the wings to start.

  • Stephen Glass made three changes after Aberdeen succumbed to a 1-0 home loss at the hands of St Johnstone before losing a topsy-turvy clash against St Mirren in Paisley by a 3-2 scoreline.
  • The three changes all took place in support of lone striker Christian Ramirez. Ryan Hedges started his first match in a month for the Dons, coming in alongside Jonny Hayes on the other flank and Teddy Jenks in a central role.
  • However, the Brighton and Hove Albion loanee was sent off for two bookings and will sit this one out. Likely candidates to take Jenks’ place are Funso Ojo, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas or Austin Samuels, all of whom were dropped initially.
  • Ange Postecolgou made three changes from the Celtic side that were held at home in a 1-1 draw by Dundee United before being blown away by Bayer Leverkusen at Parkhead in a 4-0 defeat on Thursday night.
  • Adam Montgomery started at left back, to cover for the injured Josip Juranovic. Club captain Callum McGregor replaced James McCarthy, to start his first game since mid September in the victory over Ross County.
  • However, most notably, Kyogo Furuhashi was back in the starting eleven. Albian Ajeti made way for the Japanese forward, injured on international duty but back in the Hoops for the first time since the end of August.
