World Cup Qualifiers 31/3/2021 – England v Poland

  • England have been tipped to return to a back three against Poland, who are their main challengers for top spot in qualifying.
  • Reece James or Kieran Trippier and Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell are in competition to play right and left wing-back, respectively.
  • Mason Mount has been cleared to play by Gareth Southgate and will either play deeper next to best mate Declan Rice or one side of Harry Kane with Raheem Sterling.
  • James Ward-Prowse or Kalvin Phillips will get the nod in central midfield if Mount is deployed further forward, while Phil Foden will start if the Chelsea man is deeper.
  • Robert Lewandowski has returned to Bayern Munich due to injury in a massive blow to this game as a spectacle.
  • Poland are generally pretty strong up front but the absence of Lewandowski is obviously a massive blow for the away side.
  • Krzysztof Piatek and Arkadiusz Milik now have a decent chance of both playing up front on Wednesday.
  • Third-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski has tested positive for COVID-19 and is no longer with the squad. Kamil Piatkowski has also tested positive but Grzegorz Krychowiak is available after returning a negative test

World Cup Qualifiers 31/3/2021 – Scotland v Faroe Islands

  • Scotland looked better against Israel on Sunday after switching to a back four, so Steve Clarke has plenty to ponder ahead of their match with the Faroe Islands here.
  • The main problem with that is it’s difficult to shoehorn both Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson in the same side, as the former played centre-back in a two in the second half against Israel.
  • Ryan Christie and Stuart Armstrong will push for starts on Wednesday, while Jack Hendry may also drop out of defence if Clarke persists with a back three here.
  • Faroe Islands are expected to keep things relatively similar ahead of their last game of the break.
