“The inspiration for The Same Sky came while watching the new Tom Hanks documentary on World War Two. I wondered if the Germans mocked Churchill in the same way that British people mocked Hitler, and I quickly came to the conclusion: of course they did!
“I then started wondering if it was unusual, or common, for a father to fight in the First World War and then his son to follow in his footsteps and fight in the Second World War. And I began to wonder about the wives and mothers who had to endure the pain of war, not once, but twice.
