📖 About the Premier League

The Premier League was founded in 1992 when the top-flight clubs broke away from the Football League to negotiate their own television deals. What followed transformed English football: within a decade it had become the most commercially successful domestic league in the world, attracting the best players and managers from every corner of the globe.

Today the Premier League is broadcast in 189 countries to an estimated 3.2 billion viewers. The 2025–26 season is the 34th edition of the competition. Twenty clubs play 38 matches each across a season running from August to May, with the bottom three clubs relegated to the Championship and replaced by three promoted sides.

The new UK broadcast deal (2025–26 to 2028–29) is worth £6.7 billion — the largest sports media rights deal ever agreed in the UK. For the first time in the Premier League’s history, every match played outside the Saturday 3pm blackout window will be available to watch live on television.

🏆 Premier League Champions

Manchester United dominated the first two decades of the Premier League era under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning 13 of the first 21 titles. Manchester City have won eight titles since 2012 under Pep Guardiola — including an unprecedented four in a row from 2020–21 to 2023–24. Liverpool ended a 30-year league drought in 2019–20 and added a second Premier League title in 2024–25 under Arne Slot, with Mohamed Salah winning the Golden Boot in record-breaking fashion.
