18/04/2023 Football – Champions League – Chelsea v Real Madrid

Following Ben Chilwell’s suspension due to a red card in Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final match against Real Madrid, Frank Lampard might choose to go with a four-man defence in the upcoming game. With Kalidou Koulibaly already absent, it could be a tactical decision to ensure a strong defense against Real Madrid. Here’s what we know so far about the team’s status:

  • Kai Havertz and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are being assessed ahead of the game, and it’s uncertain if Havertz will be fit to play. If not, Joao Felix might lead the charge upfront, with Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk playing alongside him.
  • Unfortunately, Armando Broja and Carney Chukwuemeka will not be available for selection in this match.
  • Vinicius Junior is a doubt due to injury, which kept him out of the team’s weekend win over Cadiz. His absence could be a significant blow to Real Madrid’s attack.
  • Ferland Mendy is also out of the game, but Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t have any further concerns about his team’s fitness.
  • It’s possible that Antonio Rudiger might replace David Alaba in the center-back position for the upcoming match.
  • Aurelien Tchouameni is another player who could feature from the outset, but that depends on Vinicius Junior’s fitness.

In summary, Chelsea will have to work hard to overcome Real Madrid in the second leg of the quarter-final without Ben Chilwell and potentially without Kai Havertz. Real Madrid’s attack could also suffer from Vinicius Junior’s absence, while Ferland Mendy’s injury won’t pose a significant problem for the team. It remains to be seen who Frank Lampard will choose for his starting lineup, but we can expect some changes to be made to adapt to the situation.

18/04/2023 Football – Champions League – Napoli v AC Milan

Napoli will be without the services of André-Frank Zambo Anguissa for their upcoming fixture, following his second-half red card in the previous game. This may open the door for Tanguy Ndombele to come into the side and partner Stanislav Lobotka and Piotr Zielinski in midfield. In other team news, Kim Min-Jae is suspended, which means that Juan Jesus and Leo Ostigard are the possible replacements for the South Korean center-back. On the other hand, Victor Osimhen has made his comeback to the squad and should be available for the upcoming game after missing several fixtures due to injury. His return will be a huge boost for Napoli as they look to advance to the next round.

AC Milan, on the other hand, have no additional injury concerns and only Zlatan Ibrahimovic is unavailable for the game. The veteran striker is ineligible for the fixture, meaning that he will not be involved in any capacity. With no further injury or suspension concerns, Stefano Pioli may opt to go with the same XI that secured a 1-0 win in the first leg.

Tottenham Hotspur may contact Luis Enrique about becoming the new head coach as part of the club’s renewed efforts to find a permanent coach, with Chelsea expected to pose competition.

Newcastle United’s successful season under Eddie Howe has led the club to become more ambitious in summer recruitment, increasing their modest budget to generate more revenue.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly delivered a pep talk to the players following the club’s latest defeat to Brighton, calling upon them to do better. Additionally, Chelsea has reportedly declined the opportunity to hire Luis Enrique as its new manager, preferring a temporary arrangement with Frank Lampard.

Barcelona is confident that Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan will sign a free transfer to the club. Co-chairmen of Manchester United, Avram and Joel Glazer, are gaining confidence in securing outside investment and maintaining control of the club. Marseille has expressed interest in signing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha when he becomes a free agent.

Brighton, West Ham, and Aston Villa are all interested in signing Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson this summer. Stoke City defender Ben Wilmot suffered a broken back against West Brom, but will not need surgery for the injury. Nottingham Forest is looking to sign Pierre van Hooijdonk’s son Sydney.
