Premier League 6/11/2021 – Manchester United v Manchester City

  • Manchester United are not shaping up well ahead of Saturday’s derby with Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani injured.
  • Victor Lindelof was a doubt heading into the game and he wasn’t spotted with the squad on the eve of the game either. Marcus Rashford was also absent.
  • Lindelof’s potential absence would more than likely force Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to do away with his back three as he’s unlikely to trust Alex Telles or Diogo at left wing-back.
  • Paul Pogba resumes his domestic suspension after starting in the Champions League on Tuesday. After his performance, however, that is not a bad thing.
  • Solskjaer will therefore most likely have to go with a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-1-2 formation, with Nemanja Matic or possibly even Donny van de Beek coming into the side for the latter.
  • Aymeric Laporte serves a one-match ban against Manchester United on Saturday after his red card in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. John Stones will deputise.
  • Raheem Sterling has been out of favour all season and is perhaps unlikely to start here given he has remarkably never scored against Manchester United in 23 career appearances.
  • With Ferran Torres unavailable, one of Phil Foden or Kevin De Bruyne will play as the false nine.
  • Former United target Jack Grealish is still settling at City and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he actually dropped out the side here with Foden pushed to the left wing.
  • Kyle Walker came away from the midweek Champions League win with a knock and is a doubt here, with Oleksandar Zinchenko on standby to come into the side.

Note: This game is on Sky Sports rather than BT Sport who usually show games in the 12:30 spot.
