12/02/2023 Football – Gossip & News

Leeds United are considering making a move for Steven Gerrard as their new manager, according to the Sunday Mirror. The Yorkshire club has had a number of rejections and is reportedly looking to bring in a familiar face in the former Liverpool midfielder. Meanwhile, Manchester City are expected to continue with business as usual, with a deal in place to add Brazilian club EC Bahia to the City Football Group portfolio.

Ilkay Gundogan, a midfielder for Manchester City, has defended Erling Haaland, following Jamie Carragher’s suggestion that the Norwegian forward may have “picked the wrong club”. Gundogan has stated that Haaland is a good fit for Manchester City.

In other news, Reece James, the Chelsea defender, has condemned an incident before their game against West Ham at the London Stadium. The incident appeared to show a Chelsea fan being knocked out and later pushed away in a wheelchair with a bloodied face.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to be given the funds he needs to boost Liverpool’s squad in the summer and the club is said to be closing in on the appointment of a new head of research to improve their recruitment efforts. UEFA is also expected to give the green light to a group of Qatari investors who are interested in buying Manchester United from the Glazers, despite concerns over a possible conflict of interest. The Glazer family is said to be split over the valuation of the club, with some members willing to consider offers under £5bn.

Arsenal is reportedly furious after it was revealed that VAR official Lee Mason forgot to draw the appropriate lines when reviewing a goal for Brentford at the Emirates, and should have spotted a team-mate in an offside position. Meanwhile, Tottenham has suffered another injury setback, with Ryan Sessegnon expected to miss six weeks with a hamstring issue he suffered in training.

Furious Valencia fans staged a mass protest against owner Peter Lim before their La Liga match with Athletic Bilbao, which resulted in a defeat and leaving them second from bottom in the table.

Manchester City is said to be in the lead in the race to sign West Ham midfielder Declan Rice this summer, but a reunion with England team-mate Kalvin Phillips might not be on the cards, as the Hammers reportedly want Phillips in part-exchange. Some officials at Chelsea are reportedly resigned to Mason Mount not signing a new deal with the club.

Lewis O’Brien is hoping to quit Nottingham Forest and join a club in America’s MLS, while Rangers are reportedly monitoring keeper Angus Gunn’s problems at Norwich as they look for a new long-term number one. Potential new owners of Manchester United have been ordered to submit one-paragraph offers summarising their bids before the end of next week.

In light of Manchester City’s recent Premier League charges for alleged Financial Fair Play breaches, the outcome of the investigation may take a long time to answer. However, if the charges are proven to be true, there may be an outcry for punishment to be inflicted upon the club.
