14/05/2023 Football – Premier League – Brentford v West Ham

Turning their attention back to local competition, West Ham United are fresh off a 2-1 triumph over AZ Alkmaar and are now set to challenge Brentford in a riveting London derby. The victory over Manchester United has significantly boosted their morale and allowed them to climb seven points clear of the drop zone. A single additional victory will ensure their survival in the league.

Brentford, on the other hand, are looking at a long shot for securing a position in the European competitions. Despite the odds, they would be more than satisfied to land a spot in the top half of the table in only their second season – an impressive feat considering the many speculations that they would find it difficult to hold their ground.

Here are some key points of interest:

  • West Ham’s recent win over Manchester United has not only bolstered their confidence but has also moved them seven points clear of the relegation zone. Their safety in the league can be guaranteed with one more win.
  • Brentford still have a slender chance of qualifying for the European spots, although their aspirations may be more realistically set on a top-half finish in the league, especially given it’s only their second season.
  • The Hammers emerged victorious in their previous outing to Brentford during the FA Cup. However, in the context of league encounters, Brentford has been dominant, winning all three of their past match-ups prior to this impending clash.

14/05/2023 Football – Premier League – Everton v Manchester City

  • Andros Townsend continues to be ruled out with a knee injury.
  • Seamus Coleman is out for the rest of the season.
  • Ruben Vinagre will be ruled out for a number of weeks with an injury, as will Dele Alli and Ben Godfrey.
  • Nathan Ake came off against Leeds with a hamstring injury and is a doubt.
  • Following a tight match against Real Madrid, in which Pep Guardiola made no substitutions, we may see a handful of changes in this one.

14/05/2023 Football – Premier League – Arsenal v Brighton

Injury woes continue to plague both Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny, keeping them off the field. William Saliba’s persistent back injury further complicates the situation as he remains indisposed for game play. The team’s misfortunes are further compounded with Mikel Arteta being compelled to make at least one alteration to the lineup, given Oleksandr Zinchenko’s unfortunate ruling out for the remainder of the season.

Furthermore, the list of absentees doesn’t stop there. Adam Lallana, Joel Veltman, Jeremy Sarmiento, Tariq Lamptey, and Jakub Moder are all still unavailable for selection. Solly March’s participation is also uncertain, casting further doubt on the squad’s strength.

In the aftermath of a disappointing outing against Everton, it’s expected that there could be several modifications to the starting lineup. Here are the key points to consider:

  • Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny continue to be on the injury list, thereby remaining unavailable for the team.
  • William Saliba’s back injury persists, leading to his ongoing exclusion from the squad.
  • Mikel Arteta is faced with the necessity of a lineup alteration due to Oleksandr Zinchenko being sidelined for the season.
  • Additional absentees include Adam Lallana, Joel Veltman, Jeremy Sarmiento, Tariq Lamptey, and Jakub Moder. Solly March’s participation is also under question.
  • Following a less than stellar performance against Everton, it’s anticipated that there may be notable changes to the initial squad.

14/05/2023 Football – Championship Play-Off

As Coventry gear up for Sunday’s play-off fixture, Manager Mark Robins is likely to adhere to a straightforward approach, with the team’s composition expected to mirror that of Monday afternoon’s encounter between the two sides. However, Coventry’s lineup will miss the presence of three key attackers – Callum O’Hare, Fabio Tavares, and Kasey Palmer, all confirmed absentees for this crucial play-off semi-final duel. They are set to be sidelined for both legs of this tie.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough will welcome back their club captain and central midfielder Jonny Howson, who is expected to be fit to feature this weekend, after missing out on the Monday match.

However, Middlesbrough’s play-off campaign has received a setback with the news that both Aaron Ramsey and Dael Fry are expected to miss the two games against Coventry, dealing a significant blow to manager Michael Carrick’s plans.

Uncertainty surrounds the participation of versatile forward Marcus Forss for the away side. Given this, it is likely that Isaiah Jones will retain his spot on the right. Here’s a summary:

  • Coventry’s Manager Mark Robins is planning a straightforward approach for Sunday’s play-off fixture, with the team likely to remain unchanged from Monday’s encounter.
  • Callum O’Hare, Fabio Tavares, and Kasey Palmer, Coventry’s attacking trio, are confirmed absentees for the play-off semi-final clash, and will miss both legs of the tie.
  • Jonny Howson, Middlesbrough’s club captain and central midfielder, should be fit to play this weekend after sitting out the Monday match against Coventry.
  • Middlesbrough’s play-off campaign has been hit by the news that Aaron Ramsey and Dael Fry are expected to be unavailable for the two games against Coventry.
  • Marcus Forss’s participation remains uncertain for the away side, and as a result, Isaiah Jones is likely to retain his place on the right.

14/05/2023 Football – League Two Play-Off

Andy Cook, the leading goal scorer of League 2, will be eager to add to his impressive scorecard of twenty-eight goals this season during the play-offs. Cook has been in sensational form, netting four goals in his previous four matches.

However, United face a setback as Joh-Kymani Gordon will serve a suspension for the first leg of the play-offs at Valley Parade on Sunday. The team’s manager, Simpson, has suggested that Finley Back, who has been on the sidelines recently due to a hamstring injury, may regain fitness in time for the final, provided United successfully navigate past Mark Hughes’ Bradford team.

Summarizing the key points:

  • League 2’s top scorer, Andy Cook, will aim to enhance his impressive seasonal goal tally of twenty-eight in the upcoming play-offs. He has been on a roll, scoring four goals in his last four outings.
  • Joh-Kymani Gordon will not be available for the first leg of the play-offs at Valley Parade on Sunday due to a suspension.
  • On a more positive note, Simpson, United’s manager, has indicated that Finley Back could recover from his recent hamstring injury in time for the final, assuming United triumph over Mark Hughes’ Bradford team.

14/05/2023 Football – Women’s FA Cup Final

Chelsea and Manchester United will face off in the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Chelsea, aiming for their third consecutive FA Cup win, will be led by manager Emma Hayes, while Manchester United, playing in their first women’s final, will be led by Marc Skinner.

The match will feature a record crowd in the Women’s FA Cup and will be the first to use the video assistant referee (VAR) system.

Manchester United will face a tough challenge as they have never defeated Chelsea in their previous nine meetings. Despite Chelsea’s past success, Skinner is confident in his team’s ability to win. Both teams have players with Wembley experience and will be eager to claim the trophy. Chelsea has the prolific striker Sam Kerr, who has scored four goals in the past two FA Cup finals.

The match will be a sell-out event at Wembley, marking a historic moment for women’s football. Additionally, VAR will be used for the first time in the Women’s FA Cup final. Chelsea reached the final by defeating WSL rivals, while Manchester United overcame three Championship sides en route to the semi-finals.
