  • Wednesday’s match with Atletico Madrid came at a cost with Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne both coming off injured. The former suffered what looked like a serious leg injury.
  • Ruben Dias at least made the bench after six weeks out injured but he didn’t even get on suggesting he isn’t quite fully fit. Starting him on Saturday would therefore be a risk.
  • Jurgen Klopp was able to rest almost his entire first-choice XI against Benfica in midweek so they will be fresher than Manchester City on Saturday.
  • Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip are in competition for a place at centre-back after Virgil van Dijk as given the night off on Wednesday.
  • Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota are battling to start in the front three along with Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.
  • Salah and Jota are carrying knocks but it would be a shock if they missed out at Wembley.

  • Matt Doherty’s season is over after he sustained a knee injury at Aston Villa on Saturday, with Sergio Reguilon in line to replace him in the XI, though Ryan Sessegnon is also an option.
  • Japhet Tanganga and Oliver Skipp are both sidelined for the hosts, who should be unchanged, save Doherty, for Saturday’s welcome of Brighton.
  • With the exception of long-term absentee Jakub Moder, Brighton boss Graham Potter has a full squad to select from on Saturday.
  • Potter could go with the same XI that started at Arsenal, though may be tempted to bring Tariq Lamptey into the side at the expense of Pascal Groß at right wing-back.
  • Adam Webser is also back at full fitness, which is a huge boost.

  • Fred was forced off in the first half of Manchester United’s 1-0 loss at Everton last weekend and joins Scott McTominay, Raphael Varane, Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw on the sidelines.
  • Paul Pogba should therefore partner Nemanja Matic in the midfield, while Anthony Elanga could start at Marcus Rashford’s expense.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo has landed himself in hot water this week for his reaction to the defeat at Goodison Park, but should lead the charge here.
  • Dean Smith could go with an unchanged XI for the trip to Old Trafford, which would see Max Aarons feature from the bench and Dimitris Giannoulis keep his spot at left-back as Brandon Williams is unable to face his parent club.
  • Billy Gilmour, Josh Sargent and Przemyslaw Placheta are all doubts for the visitors.

  • Armando Broja is available having missed the 6-0 mauling at the hands of Chelsea as he was ineligible to face his parent club.
  • Shane Long, Alex McCarthy and Lyanco are all doubts for the home side.
  • Despite witnessing another heavy defeat, Ralph Hasenhuttl may elect against wholesale changes here.
  • Saturday’s trip to Southampton comes too soon for Takehiro Tomiyasu, who remains sidelined, as do Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey.
  • Alexandre Lacazette has not been training this week but Mikel Arteta hopes to have him available in some capacity to face Southampton.
  • Arteta may have to move Granit Xhaka back into midfield after he replaced the injured Kieran Tierney at left-back last weekend.

  • Cucho Hernandez sustained a hamstring injury in the first half of Watford’s 3-0 loss to Leeds last week and misses out, with Emmanuel Dennis expected to deputise.
  • Kwadwo Baah and Nicolas Nkoulou are also unavailable to Roy Hodgson, who may go with a similar looking XI here.
  • Pontus Jansson missed the 2-0 win over West Ham due to illness and his absence saw Thomas Frank move to a 4-3-3 with Kristoffer Ajer starting at right-back.
  • Frank could go with the same system and XI for the trip to Watford, with Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo flanking Ivan Toney.
  • Josh Dasilva and Frank Onyeka are ruled out.
