27/03/2023 Football – Republic of Ireland v France

The Republic of Ireland’s national football team faces a daunting task as they take on France in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier on March 27th. Despite France’s recent 4-0 win over the Netherlands, Irish coach Stephen Kenny is not planning on a conservative strategy to contain France’s top players such as Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann. Instead, he is challenging his team to show “fire and ice”, a combination of tenacity and aggression with composure and calm in possession. Ireland is coming off a friendly win over Latvia in which Brighton’s Evan Ferguson scored his first international goal. The team has called up Preston winger Robbie Brady for cover due to captain Seamus Coleman and wing-back Callum O’Dowda’s injuries.
