31/08/2022 Football – Premier League – Arsenal v Aston Villa

• Mikel Arteta could find himself short in central midfield against Aston Villa, with Thomas Partey out injured and Mohamed Elneny now set for a considerable spell on the sidelines.
• Oleksandr Zinchenko may miss out for the second game running as well, so Arteta may turn to Sambi Lokonga here or use Martin Odegaard, Fabio Vieira or Emil Smith Rowe in a slightly deeper position.
• Arteta would ideally like to freshen things up further here with one eye on Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford.

• Under fire manager Steven Gerrard is expected to shuffle his pack after yet another poor display and result.
• Tyrone Mings missed Aston Villa’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday through illness but could return here.
• Philippe Coutinho should be available after suffering from cramp at the weekend but may drop out based on his poor form.
• Leon Bailey and Emi Buendia should return to the frame here.

• Bournemouth sacked Scott Parker on Tuesday morning after their 9-0 defeat to Liverpool.
• Lloyd Kelly remains a doubt after missing out against Liverpool on Saturday. Ben Pearson suffered a leg injury in the heavy loss and misses out here.
• Dominic Solanke was fit enough to feature from the bench against Liverpool and is an option from the start here.

• Willy Boly didn’t turn up for Wolves’ draw with Newcastle on Sunday and is unlikely to play any part here.
• Rayan Ait-Nouri, Adama Traore, Hwang Hee-Chan, Daniel Podence and Leander Dendoncker are options for the start.
• Pedro Neto will need assessing after taking a heavy challenge against Newcastle.

• Michail Antonio is expected to return to the starting XI after dropping to the bench against Aston Villa on Sunday.

• Angelo Ogbonna and Vlad Coufal could rotate into defence for the Hammers to face Tottenham. Craig Dawson is unlikely to recover from injury in time to feature.
• Club-record signing Lucas Paqueta won’t have his visa in time to face Tottenham.

• After another influential outing off the bench, Richarlison will surely earn his full Tottenham debut in one of their next two matches.
• Oliver Skipp and Cristian Romero should be back available for Wednesday’s match at West Ham, though only the latter would be considered for a start.
• Rodrigo Bentancur could miss out with suspected concussion.

• Harvey Elliott came off at half-time against Bournemouth as a precaution but was later cleared of any injury. Joel Matip and Curtis Jones were back in training on Monday.
• Caoimhin Kelleher is expected in training this week and could make the matchday squad on Wednesday. Diogo Jota will return to training on Thursday with an eye on the weekend’s game.
• Darwin Nunez serves the final game of a three-match ban on Wednesday.

• Newcastle could be missing Bruno Guimaraes, Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and club-record signing Alexander Isak for the trip to Anfield. Kieran Trippier also needs assessment.

• Jon Dahl Tomasson could hand starts to attacking duo Ryan Hedges and Tyrhys Dolan in midweek as he searches for a response to Saturday’s defeat.
• Sammie Szmodics is Rovers’ latest injury concern, while Callum Brittain and Scott Wharton are also confirmed absentees.
