AFCON 11/1/2022. Three games are being played in the AFCON today. There is also a Premier League game, Southampton v Brentford not shown on UK TV.
AFCON 11/1/2022 – Algeria v Sierra Leon
- Andy Delort and Rachid Ghezzal were both overlooked for AFCON, the former a surprise considering his good form for Nice this season.
- Islam Slimani and Said Benrahma are expected to feature as impact players for Algeria, with Djamel Belmadi set to go for a front three of captain Riyad Mahrez, Baghdad Bounedjah and Youcef Belaïli.
- Steven Caulker switched allegiance from England to Sierra Leone late last year and he should start against the reigning AFCON champions.
- The experienced Kei Kamara is set to feature in attack and is one goal short of matching Mohamed Kallon’s goal record for the Leone Stars.

AFCON 11/1/2022 – Nigeria v Egypt
- Leon Balogun was unable to recover from injury in time for AFCON and is absent, with Kenneth Omeruo set to feature in defence as a result.
- AFCON 2019 top scorer Odion Ighalo wasn’t released by Al Shabab in time for the tournament, with Ahmed Musa expected to line up alongside Kelechi Iheanacho in attack.
- Trezeguet has only recently returned to first team action for Aston Villa and while he has been included in Egypt’s AFCON squad, Mohamed Sherif may instead start on the left.

AFCON 11/1/2022 – Sudan v Guinea-Bissau
- Mohamed Abdel-Rahman will lead the charge for Sudan and he has an impressive goal return for the Falcons of Jediane.
- Al Gazoli Nouh looks set to feature on the frontline despite only making his debut for Sudan six months ago.
- Guinea-Bissau have had a COVID-19 outbreak in the squad, but it’s not yet been revealed what players have tested positiv

AFCON 11/1/2022 – Premier League -Southampton v Brentford
- Mohammed Salisu is available following a ban, but is replaced on the naughty step by Yan Valery after his red card at Swansea on Saturday.
- Ralph Hasenhuttl has selection issues at right-back with Valery joining Kyle Walker-Peters and Valentino Livramento on the sidelines, meaning James Ward-Prowse may drop into defence for the welcome of Brentford.
- Che Adams is over his bout of COVID-19 but Southampton are still missing Walker-Peters and Thierry Small in midweek.
- Thomas Frank has confirmed both Sergi Canos and Mathias Jensen will return to the matchday squad for the trip to Southampton on Tuesday. Rico Henry is even a doubt for the weekend.
- Zanka, Charlie Goode, David Raya, Josh Dasilva and Julian Jeanvier are all ruled out through injury, while Frank Onyeka is with the Nigeria squad at AFCON.
- Kristoffer Ajer is back at full fitness, but Mads Bech Sorensen has impressed in defence and could keep his place at the back. Zanka is back in training but this game comes too soon for him to feature.
