  • Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata were both forced off in Juventus’ 3-2 win over Sampdoria on Sunday, with the former certainly ruled out against Chelsea.
  • Kaio Jorge and Arthur are also sidelined for the Serie A outfit.
  • Dejan Kulusevski is likely to deputise for Dybala alongside Moise Kean up front.
  • Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Mason Mount, Reece James and Christian Pulisic are all out of Wednesday’s game with Juventus due to injury.
  • N’Golo Kante has also tested positive for COVID-19 and will be sidelined until after the international break.
  • Jorginho came off with a knock in defeat to Manchester City on Saturday but Tuchel will hope to have him fit here given Saul Niguez’s early struggles.
  • Thiago Silva is set to come into the side at centre-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta moving to right wing-back as cover for James.
  • Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz are also in line for recalls with Mount out injured.

  • Under pressure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to be without three of his normal back four on Wednesday night.
  • Aaron Wan-Bissaka is suspended after his straight red card last time out in the Champions League, while Harry Maguire won’t return until after the international break.
  • Solskjaer hasn’t completely ruled Luke Shaw out but it would be a major surprise if he was fit enough to start in midweek.
  • Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani will push for starts against Villarreal.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo has 13 goals in 19 career appearances against Villarreal, though only two have come in his last six.

  • Pau Torres returned from his extended holiday earlier this month and will line up against United here.
  • Juan Foyth hobbled off at the weekend but has been included in the squad to travel to England.
