Premier League 16/10/2021 – Watford v Liverpool

  • Watford sacked Xisco Munoz before the break and appointed former Chelsea and Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri. It remains to be seen how Watford will line-up here.
  • Centre-backs Christian Kabasele and Francisco Sierralta are out for the next couple of weeks. Nicolas Nkoulou signed on a free during the break and he is also out, so Craig Cathcart should start in defence.
  • Daniel Bachmann got minutes during the international break and will challenge Ben Foster for a place in goal.
  • Joao Pedro earned minutes as a substitute before the break and could make his first start of the season here with King a major doubt.
  • Liverpool will be without Brazilian duo Alisson and Fabinho as the pair flew direct to Spain ahead of their Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid next week, but Roberto Firmino is available as he was not called up.
  • With Diogo Jota unlikely to be fit in time to start due to a nagging muscle injury, Firmino looks good to make just his second league start of the season.
  • Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to replace Alisson in goal, while Jordan Henderson may have to take Fabinho’s role. James Milner may move back into midfield with Trent Alexander-Arnold back from a groin injury.
  • Thiago is unlikely to be risked with a Champions League game with Atletico Madrid three days later to prepare for.
  • Curtis Jones sustained a knock for the England U21s in midweek and is ruled out for the trip to Watford on Saturday.
  • Virgil van Dijk started both games for the Netherlands during the international break and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was rested here with an eye on the Champions League next week. Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are on standby for the away side.

Premier League 16/10/2021 – Brentford v Chelsea

  • Brentford have Kristoffer Ajer and Vitaly Janelt available for selection for this west London clash.
  • Shandon Baptiste, Josh Dasilva and Mads Sorensen all miss out.
  • Yoane Wissa will hope to make his full league debut after some impressive recent showings.
  • Chelsea will hope to have N’Golo Kante back from his bout of COVID-19, though he may only make the bench here.
  • Thiago Silva is unavailable after joining up with the Brazil squad during the international break. Antonio Rudiger also misses out, so Trevoh Chalobah could move to the left centre-back role and Cesar Azpilicueta fill in at the back.
  • Reece James and Christian Pulisic remain doubts for Chelsea ahead of Saturday’s short trip to face Brentford.
  • Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley have surprisingly worked their way back into contention, even ahead of summer signing Saul Niguez.
  • Timo Werner had a good international break with Germany and scored in Chelsea’s last game so he will hope to start here.
  • Ben Chilwell has endured a tough few months, but there finally appears to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Premier League 16/10/2021 – Motherwell v Celtic

  • Graham Alexander named just the one change to the Motherwell team that beat Ross County 2-1 at Fir Park before losing 2-0 to Hearts at Tynecastle in what was a massive match prior to the international break.
  • Ricki Lamie had started for the Steelmen against the Staggies, as Bevis Mugabi made way in defence for the meeting with County. However, the Ugandan came back in against the Jambos alongside Juhani Ojala.
  • Tony Watt and Kaiyne Woolery supported Kevin van Veen in attack at Tynecastle, the first league match that none of the trio has scored in and just the third match in all competitions this season that the Well haven’t found the net.
  • Ange Postecolgou made an eye opening change from the Celtic side that was blown away by Bayer Leverkusen at Parkhead in a 4-0 defeat, as they scraped past Aberdeen 2-1 at Pittodrie in their last Premiership match.
  • Nir Bitton, who came on against the Germans, was handed a rare start in the midfield trio alongside Callum McGregor and David Turnbull. Tom Rogic started from the bench against the Dons and was introduced later on in the game.
  • Kyogo Furuhashi was back in the starting XI and among the goals against Aberdeen, back in the Hoops for the first time since the end of August against Leverkusen, before Jota nicked it against the Dons with an 84th minute winner.
