Premier League 2/10/2021 – Manchester United v Everton (12:30)

• Aaron Wan-Bissaka returns from suspension for Manchester United but Harry Maguire is still unavailable due to injury.
• Despite being included in the England squad, Luke Shaw could miss out once more on Saturday due to a shoulder problem. Alex Telles and Diogo Dalot are on standby.
• Given the sharp turnaround between matches, Solskjaer should really flex his squad here with starts for Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani.
• However, it remains to be seen whether he will actually bench the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo. Particularly the latter after his match winning goal in midweek.
• Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo will not return until after the international break.

• Jordan Pickford and Lucas Digne recovered from injury to start Everton’s 2-0 win over Norwich last weekend, though the former is back to being a doubt.
• However, Rafa Benitez is still without Seamus Coleman, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin until after the international break. Alex Iwobi is also a major doubt.
• Andre Gomes has been ruled out but Jean-Philippe Gbamin will make the bench on Saturday.
• With Iwobi set to miss out, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Benitez played a back three or alternatively pushed Lucas Digne further forward with Ben Godfrey at left-back. Anthony Gordon is a natural option to replace Iwobi.

• Ex-Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck may well miss out against his old club after suffering a hamstring injury on Monday.
• Steven Alzate is not expected to return until after the international break along with Adam Webster.

• Granit Xhaka is out for the best part of three months with knee ligament damage suffered in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Tottenham.
• Emile Smith Rowe or Martin Odegaard may drop deeper to cover for Xhaka’s absence with Nicolas Pepe or Alexandre Lacazette coming into the side.
• However, Albert Sambi Lokonga is perhaps more likely to take Xhaka’s place in the team in an otherwise unchanged Arsenal XI.
