03/06/2023 Football – Scottish FA Cup – Celtic v Inverness CT

Event Overview:

  • The Scottish Cup final is set to take place between Celtic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday, 3 June, at Hampden Park, Glasgow1.
  • The match can be viewed on BBC One Scotland, BBC Scotland & BBC iPlayer, and listened to on BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Nan Gaidheal, BBC Radio 5 live & BBC Sounds1.

Key Talking Points:

  • Celtic is in the hunt for a domestic treble, while Inverness CT hopes for a significant upset1.
  • Speculations are rife about whether this game will mark the end of Ange Postecoglou’s time as Celtic’s coach, as he is being strongly associated with Tottenham Hotspur1.
  • Celtic has already secured the League Cup and Premiership titles this season. A victory in the Scottish Cup would mean their fifth treble in seven years and the eighth overall1.
  • Inverness CT, under the leadership of Billy Dodds, is looking to clinch their second Scottish Cup in eight years, hoping to replicate past successes against Celtic1.

Teams’ Track Records:

  • Last season, Celtic and Postecoglou were on the verge of a complete domestic victory until they were defeated in the Old Firm semi-final by Rangers. However, a victory over Rangers this season has given Celtic another shot at the treble1.
  • Celtic could edge past Rangers with this win, marking their 8th treble win and extending their national record of 40 Scottish Cups. This would also be Celtic’s 115th major domestic honour1.

Inverness CT’s History of Surprises:

  • Inverness CT, despite being a recent addition to the Scottish football scene (established in 1994), has a reputation for surprising outcomes in the Scottish Cup1.
  • Their major upset victories include a 3-1 win at Celtic Park in 2000, a 1-0 defeat of Celtic in the Highlands in 2003, and a 3-2 semi-final win over Celtic in 2015, which led them to their first major trophy1.
  • However, the odds for the upcoming match are not in their favor due to the vast difference in resources and the fact that they haven’t played a competitive match since 5 May1.
