  • Takuma Asano made the final team but was injured since September, so there was a doubt over him featuring against Germany. He was the hero against them, and could earn him a place up front against Costa Rica.
  • Hiroki Sakai came off with 15 minutes to go with an injury, so he is a natural doubt. Takehiro Tomiyasu could start in his place.
  • There are no injury concerns for Costa Rica ahead of the game against Japan.

  • Romelu Lukaku has not played a competitive game since the end of October, only making five appearances across all competitions for Inter Milan this season and is likely to miss the opening two World Cup games for Belgium, owing to a thigh injury.
  • Abdelhamid Sabiri is unlikely to feature in this game, owing to injury.
  • Abdessamad Ezzalzouli is out of the game with a hamstring injury.
  • Noussair Mazraoui was stretchered off in their draw with Croatia and could miss the Belgium game.

27/11/2022 Football - World Cup - Croatia v Canada

27/11/2022 Football – World Cup – Croatia v Canada

  • Croatia got their 2022 World Cup campaign underway with a point, drawing 0-0 with Morocco, in a game with few chances. They can put themselves in pole position for the Round of 16 with a win, but it wouldn’t guarantee them a place.
  • Canada despite recording the joint third most shots in matchday one of all the teams in the tournament with 22, though only three were on target, they were unable to find a way of scoring, as they lost 1-0 to Belgium in their opening group game, with Alphonso Davies missing a penalty earlier in the game. A loss here would mean they would go out of the World Cup.
  • There were signs on Wednesday that offensively Canada can be a threat to teams and it would just be a case of being more clinical in front of goal and if they can do that here, then they should be able to at least get a point against a Croatia side who seem to lack the same quality which got them to the final four years.

  • Jose Gaya was in contention to start before suffering a sprained ankle in training. He had to withdraw from the squad, and Barcelona’s Alex Balde was called up in his place.
  • Expect an unchanged side to the team that thrashed Costa Rica from Luis Enrique.
  • Leroy Sane didn’t feature against Japan, but did make the bench in the defeat.
