FK Krasnodar v Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says he has a “positive relationship” with Antonio Rudiger and said the defender could make his first appearance of the season against FK Krasnodar on Wednesday.

Germany international Rudiger, 27, has been left out of the squad for six out of the Blues’ seven games this season.

Chelsea travel to Russia for the Champions League Group E match.

“I’ve had discussions. Sometimes players are out of the squad but he is very much in contention,” said Lampard.

Former Roma defender Rudiger has not played for Chelsea this season, although he has started all five of Germany’s matches this year.

Defender Thiago Silva has been rested for Wednesday’s game, while Lampard is without injured goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and suspended defender Marcos Alonso.

Chelsea drew their group opener 0-0 against Sevilla last week, and have not won in the past three games in all competitions.

“People look at this group and think it is comfortable for us, but we have to have edge against Krasnodar,” said Lampard.

“They are new into the Champions League so will have absolute motivation. We’re very focused on the game.”

Manchester United v RB Leipzig

Manchester United will use “more or less the same squad” as Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea for Wednesday’s Champions League visit of Leipzig, said boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United host the German league leaders in Group H, after defeating Paris St-Germain 2-1 in their opener.

Strikers Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford and midfielder Bruno Fernandes are available.

“There are a couple of doubts and knocks,” said Solskjaer.

Cavani, who signed for United on transfer deadline day, made his first appearance for Solskjaer’s side against Chelsea, almost scoring with his first touch of the game.

Anthony Martial, who scored an own goal in United’s first group match against PSG, could return.

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann, 33, guided his team to a Champions League semi-final last season, where they lost to 2020-21 Group H rivals PSG. That 3-0 defeat was their last loss in all competitions.

“We look at every single game as a chance to get three points,” said Solskjaer.

“In the group stage we have four teams and you would think that 10 points would get you through, so to get to 10 points as quickly as we can is our aim and our focus now is on getting three points tomorrow night.”

Alex Telles, who made his debut at left-back against PSG last week, and 22-year-old defender Axel Tuanzebe could feature after impressive performances against the Ligue 1 leaders.

Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard are the only players who will definitely not feature for Solskjaer’s side due to injury.

RB Leipzig, who also won their first Group H match, beating Istanbul Basaksehir 2-0, have never faced Manchester United before.

Manchester City loanee Angelino scored both of their goals to open his team’s account in their third season in the Champions League.

Juventus v Barcelona

Juventus are waiting on a Covid-19 test result to see if Cristiano Ronaldo will be available for their Champions League match against Barcelona on Wednesday.

Ronaldo, 35, has been self-isolating since testing positive for the virus on 13 October and recorded another positive result last week.

Juve boss Andrea Pirlo said they would have a definitive result on Tuesday evening.

Ronaldo last played in Portugal’s 0-0 draw with France on 11 October.

Juventus will definitely be without defenders Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt, while Leonardo Bonucci and Paulo Dybala will both be assessed for the game in Turin.

The 1995-96 Champions League champions beat Dynamo Kyiv 2-0 in their opening game of this year’s group stage.

Their opponents Barcelona are set to be without midfielder Philippe Coutinho, after the ex-Liverpool player injured his left hamstring in Saturday’s 3-1 El Clasico defeat against Real Madrid.

The length of the 28-year-old’s absence will “depend on how the injury evolves”, according to Barca.

Barcelona beat Ferencvaros 5-1 in their opening group match.
