01/01/2023 Football – There is Premier League action today. At 2pm on Sky Sports is Tottenham v Aston Villa. The later game is Nottingham Forest v Chelsea.
01/01/2023 Football – Premier League – Tottenham v Aston Villa
- Brazilian duo Lucas Moura and Richarlison are absent for Tottenham, but Antonio Conte is hopeful that World Cup winner Cristian Romero can start.
- Djed Spence will be assessed following illness, though was unlikely to have started here, while Rodrigo Bentancur has suffered a setback upon his return from a groin problem and misses out.
- Hugo Lloris was on the bench for the Boxing Day draw with Brentford, yet is set to replace Fraser Forster between the sticks.
- Philippe Coutinho was fit enough to make a late cameo against former side Liverpool on Boxing Day, and will hope to start at Tottenham on New Year’s Day.
- Unai Emery is without Diego Carlos and Jacob Ramsey, but World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez is back at the club and should replace Robin Olsen between the sticks.

- Morgan Gibbs-White and Jesse Lingard will be assessed, but Giulian Biancone, Cheikhou Kouyate, Omar Richards and Moussa Niakhate are ruled out.
- Dean Henderson was unavailable for the defeat at Manchester United, but should replace Wayne Hennessey between the sticks here.
- Steve Cooper should make changes here with Renan Lodi, Neco Williams and Lewis O’Brien among those expected to come into the side.
- Reece James was forced off early in the second half of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the week, and is absent, with Cesar Azpilicueta likely to deputise at right-back.
- The trip to Nottingham Forest does come too soon for Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ben Chilwell, while Wesley Fofana, N’Golo Kante and Armando Broja are sidelined.
- Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech have returned to the club following their World Cup exploits and are options for Graham Potter.
- Thiago Silva may also be rested for Sunday’s game at Forest.
