- Steve Bruce will take time to discover his best starting XI for the 2022/23 campaign so expect some tinkering in the opening rounds, starting with the introduction of Alex Mowatt and Grady Diangana for the visit of Watford.
- Karlan Grant made little impact against Middlesbrough but should keep his place ahead of Daryl Dike.
- Okay Yokuslu is still some way off full fitness and is likely to miss out again this weekend.
- Watford boss Rob Edwards could opt for a nearly unchanged starting XI after his side got the better of pre-season promotion fancies Sheffield United on Monday night.
- One likely change will be Hassane Kamara moving over to the left to make room for Mario Gaspar’s debut. The experienced full-back has joined from the Spanish side Villarreal.
- Ismaila Sarr and Emmanuel Dennis could both depart the club this summer but Edwards will continue to utilise the pair until their eventual departures.
