26/02/2023 Football – Viaplay Cup

The Viaplay Cup final between Glasgow’s biggest football clubs, Rangers and Celtic, is set to take place at Hampden Park on Sunday, 26th February. The two sides last met in a final back in December 2019, where Celtic emerged victorious, albeit controversially, with a goal scored from an offside position. The Glasgow derby is always highly anticipated, and this time it is even more special, given that it is a cup final.

Celtic, the defending champions, are coming into this game on the back of a strong performance in the league and a comeback win in last season’s final against Hibernian. Manager Ange Postecoglou has done a commendable job since taking charge, leading Celtic to a nine-point lead in the league, with the team losing just one domestic match all season.

On the other hand, Rangers have been on a hot streak of their own, with new boss Michael Beale yet to lose a game since his appointment in December. The team has won 13 matches and drawn one in all competitions under his leadership. However, they have not won this particular trophy since March 2011.

Both teams have had notable absences in their squads due to injuries. Celtic’s top scorer, Kyogo Furuhashi, is expected to start after recovering from a shoulder injury, while midfielders Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull are on track to return. Rangers have a few injuries of their own, with midfielders John Lundstram, Malik Tillman, and Ryan Jack absent. However, John Souttar, Tom Lawrence, Steven Davis, Ridvan Yilmaz, and Filip Helander remain sidelined.

This is a significant moment for both managers, with Postecoglou aiming to lead Celtic to a clean sweep of domestic titles, while Beale looks to win his first piece of silverware as a manager. It will be the 16th time these two sides have met in a final, with Rangers winning nine of the previous tussles.

The last time these two sides met in the league, Celtic emerged as 4-0 winners at Celtic Park in early September. However, the last meeting between these two sides ended in a 1-1 draw, with Kyogo Furuhashi scoring the equalizer for Celtic.

This is set to be another exciting and closely contested match, with both teams in good form. It is sure to be a tightly fought affair, with the outcome likely to be decided by a single goal, as has been the case in most of the previous Old Firm finals.

26/02/2023 Football Gossip & News

Manchester City, currently in top form and sitting at the summit of the Premier League table, are reportedly keen to add Brighton and Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister to their already star-studded squad in the summer. The 24-year-old could be a valuable addition to City’s midfield and provide some much-needed depth to the side.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham seems to be gaining momentum, with sources claiming that their struggles this season will not harm their chances of signing the 19-year-old. Despite not securing Champions League qualification, Bellingham’s talent and potential could still be a major draw for Liverpool as they seek to strengthen their midfield.

Italian giants Inter Milan are also making headlines, with reports suggesting that they could demand 70-75m euros for 26-year-old Italy midfielder Nicolo Barella, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool. The midfielder’s skill and versatility would certainly make him a valuable asset to any team, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool would be willing to meet Inter’s asking price.

Inter Milan’s Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic could also be on the move this summer, with several top clubs, including Barcelona, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, reportedly interested in signing the 30-year-old. Brozovic’s experience and quality in midfield could be a major draw for these clubs as they look to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Paris St-Germain is reportedly looking to reduce its wage bill due to UEFA financial fair play regulations, and this could mean that at least one of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, or Neymar could be leaving the club in the summer. These three world-class forwards have been the backbone of PSG’s success in recent years, and their potential departure could have major implications for the club and the wider footballing world.

In other transfer news, AC Milan and French striker Olivier Giroud is reportedly open to a move back to the Premier League, with several London clubs, including West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Brentford, all potential destinations for the 36-year-old. Additionally, Newcastle is said to be considering a move for Bristol City’s English midfielder Alex Scott, while Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson could be in line for a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for next month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.
