  • Back available just in time for the Cup of Nations following a nine-month ban for using an illegal substance, Andre Onana will line up in goal for the hosts having played just one competitive match in almost a year.
  • Salzburg’s Jerome Onguene and Saint-Ettiene’s Harold Moukoudi will compete for a place at the back alongside Michael Ngadeu after Joel Matip stuck by his decision to withdraw from the national team some six years ago.
  • Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will hope to start but Vincent Aboubakar is likely to lead the line so the Bayern forward may have to bide his time.
  • Star forward Bertrand Traore made a timely first start of a season thwarted by injuries thus far and will start having come through the match at Brentford unscathed.
  • Edmond Tapsoba is another star turn in the side having established a reputation as one of the top young defenders in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, while namesake Abdoul is a promosing option in attack.
  • The side does lack a true focal point, however, in the absence through injury of the powerful Lassina Traore, so Mohamed Konate could get the nod up front.

  • 21-year-old stopper Fasil Gebremichael has emerged as the first choice keeper of late.
  • The side’s most capped player, Shimeles Bekele, is one of just two in the entire squad that plays outside of Ethiopia for Egyptian side El Gouna and he will line up in midfield.
  • Meanwhile, all-time top scorer Getaneh Kebede will lead the line, flanked by two promising young forwards in Abubeker Nasir and Amanuel Gebremichael, who at 21 and 22 respectively, have four international goals apiece.
  • Cape Verde are one of a handful of teams at the tournament that seem likely to set up with a back three marshalled by veteran and captain Stopira.
  • Coach Bubista has some decent attacking options to call upon, most notably in the wide positions, where former Lille winger Ryan Mendes will line up on the left and Jamiro Monteiro – who plies his trade in MLS with Philadelphia Union – could move to the right.
  • Veteran striker Julio Tavares looks set to get the nod up front despite strong competition from Trabzonspor forward Djaniny.

  • Mikel Arteta, who is back from COVID himself, is expected to rotate heavily against Nottingham Forest with an eye on next week’s re-arranged Carabao Cup semi-final first leg clash with Liverpool.
  • 18-year-old Charlie Patino scored in the League Cup against Sunderland last month and could make his full Arsenal debut here.
