Disagreeing — politely and directly
How to push back without offending.
Disagreeing politely in Bulgarian often starts with acknowledging the other person's point before introducing your own. Direct contradiction is possible but can sound blunt — the softeners below make disagreement sound natural and respectful.

— Според мен провинцията предлага по-добро качество на живот. По-спокойно е.
— Съгласен съм, но не бих казал, че е скучно в София. Има толкова много да правиш.
— Да, но пък трафикът е ужасен. И апартаментите — много са скъпи.
— Имаш право за апартаментите. Въпреки това смятам, че си струва да опитаме.

- Write your opinion on one of these topics using at least 5 opinion phrases: (a) learning Bulgarian (b) living in a big city (c) the importance of traditions.
- Translate: "In my opinion, Bulgarian culture is fascinating. I am not entirely sure why, but I think it is because of the history."
- Rewrite "I don't agree" in three different ways — from direct to diplomatic.
- Write a short dialogue where two people disagree politely about whether Bulgaria is a good country to live in.
