Euro 2020 29/06/2021 – England v Germany

  • Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount come out of 10 days of quarantine on the day of England’s round of 16 clash with Germany, which is far from ideal. Mount would normally be a guaranteed starter but having missed all of training in the lead up to the match can Gareth Southgate really throw him in?
  • Despite not playing it at all this year, Southgate is said to be seriously considering a back three against Germany. Kyle Walker will tuck in to the back three as a result with Reece James and Luke Shaw battling to start at wing-back. Kieran Trippier is expected to start, especially with Mount set to be named on the bench.
  • A back three spells bad news for Jack Grealish, with Phil Foden or Bukayo Saka more likely to complete the front three alongside Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.
  • Originally ruled out against Hungary, Thomas Muller made a surprise appearance off the bench.
  • Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Serge Gnabry were both fit to start despite heading into Wednesday’s game as doubts.
  • Jonas Hofmann and Lukas Klostermann are both doubts for Monday but neither would have start.
  • Leon Goretzka bailed Germany out against Hungary off the bench last time out but it’s hard to find a way to squeeze him in the team.

Euro 2020 29/06/2021 – Sweden v Ukraine

  • The one real doubt in the side is who starts up front with no one looking particularly convincing alongside Alexander Isak.
  • Do Sweden gamble, to a degree, and put Dejan Kulusevski or Emil Forsberg up front with Isak or go back to Marcus Berg?
  • Brought back down to earth by Austria in their final group game, Ukraine may consider how they set up against Sweden on Monday.
  • Ruslan Malinovskiy was hooked at half-time in defeat to Austria and must now be sweating on his place in the team here.
  • Taras Stepanenko will hope to reclaim a starting spot in the team, with Serhiy Sydorchuk looking far from impressive at the base of their midfield.
  • Denys Popov and Oleksandr Zubkov remain injury doubts for Ukraine.
