Driving Style

Jack Doohan's driving style carries the kind of instinctive bravery and raw commitment that one might expect from the son of a five-time MotoGP world champion. His approach to a lap is characterised by late, hard braking and an aggressive turn-in that maximises his time at the apex. Doohan is notably strong in the braking zones, where his confidence and precision allow him to make up time against more experienced competitors. His throttle application out of slow-speed corners is smooth and progressive, a skill that serves him well in managing rear tyre wear.

As a rookie, Doohan is still adapting to the specific demands of Formula 1 machinery, but his junior career demonstrated an ability to extract performance quickly from unfamiliar cars. His racecraft is developing with each passing weekend, and he has shown encouraging signs of racecraft maturity in his wheel-to-wheel encounters. Doohan's feedback to his engineers is detailed and analytical, a quality that Alpine value highly as they develop their car throughout the season. His wet-weather driving has been a particular highlight, displaying the kind of car control that suggests significant untapped potential.

Career

Born on 20 January 2003 in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, Jack Doohan carries one of the most famous names in motorsport history. His father, Michael "Mick" Doohan, won five consecutive 500cc MotoGP world championships from 1994 to 1998 and is considered one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time. Jack chose four wheels over two, and his talent was evident from his early karting campaigns in Australia before he moved to Europe to pursue the traditional single-seater pathway to Formula 1.

Doohan's junior career was one of steady progression. He competed in Formula 3 and then Formula 2, where he developed into a consistent race winner and established himself as one of the Alpine Academy's leading prospects. His Formula 2 campaigns showed strong qualifying pace and an improving race-day consistency, with victories and podiums that demonstrated his readiness for the top level of the sport.

For 2025, Doohan earned promotion to the Alpine F1 team alongside the experienced Pierre Gasly. As an Alpine Academy graduate, he represents the team's investment in developing their own talent through the junior pathway. Adjusting to Formula 1 has presented its challenges, but Doohan's determination to carve out his own legacy — separate from his father's towering reputation — drives him forward. He is the second Australian on the current grid alongside Oscar Piastri, and Australian motorsport fans are watching his development with keen interest and high hopes.
